Overview
Use Change role to temporarily view SchoolFunds Online (SFO) as a lower-level user for training, onboarding, or troubleshooting. While switched, you only have the permissions of the selected role until you exit.
Before you begin
- Only a District Administrator with the appropriate permission can use Change role. Standard Users cannot access this feature.
- You can switch only to roles at a lower level than your own.
Steps
- In the top-right corner of the SFO homepage, click the Profile icon. When Change role is enabled, this icon replaces the standard Logout icon.
- From the menu, click Change role. A new page opens with a list of available roles at or below your level.
- Select the desired role and confirm if prompted. You are switched to the selected role.
Exit role
- Click Exit Role from the header or the Profile menu.
- You are returned to your original role and homepage without needing to log in again.
Outcome
You view SFO exactly as the chosen lower-level role. Only that role’s menus and permissions are available. Exiting returns you to your original role.
Troubleshooting
- "Change role" is missing - Your account lacks the required permission. Ask a District Administrator to enable it in User Management.
- Target role not listed - You can only switch to roles below your own. Verify the role exists and is permitted for your user.
- Cannot exit role - Use Exit Role from the header or Profile menu. If the option is not visible, sign out and sign back in.
