Overview

This article explains how QR codes are used on SchoolCash Online and SchoolCash Register receipts to make receipt scanning easier and faster.

Before you begin

  • Starting December 7, 2023, barcodes on SchoolCash Online and SchoolCash Register receipts are replaced with QR codes.
  • Electronic receipts from previous purchases are also automatically updated with QR codes.
  • Printed barcodes on physical receipts remain scannable on your devices.

Use QR codes on receipts

QR codes on receipts are designed to make scanning easier when you are working on the go, in low light, with dark backgrounds, or on low-brightness screens.

When you open a receipt in SchoolCash Online or SchoolCash Register, use the displayed QR code in place of the barcode for scanning.

QR codes are proven to scan faster on handheld devices and are less likely to result in scanning errors because they have built-in error correction capabilities. This allows them to remain scannable even if part of the code is damaged or obscured.

What changed

  • Barcodes on SchoolCash Online and SchoolCash Register receipts are replaced with QR codes.
  • Previous electronic receipts are automatically updated with QR codes.
  • Printed barcodes on physical receipts still work and can still be scanned.

Outcome

You can scan receipt QR codes more easily on handheld devices, especially in low light, on dark backgrounds, or on low-brightness screens, while continuing to use printed barcodes on physical receipts where needed.

Troubleshooting

  • You are trying to scan an older electronic receipt - Previous electronic receipts are automatically updated with QR codes.
  • You are using a printed physical receipt - Printed barcodes on physical receipts are still scannable.
